Savannah Film Festival 2011

I'm giving you plenty of time to get settled in you new Charleston condominium before taking off on a roadtrip to nearby Savannah Georgia. Do not miss the chance to run down the coast and attend the Savannah College of Arts and Design sponsored Fim Festival of 2011. The dates should coincide with those of 2010, which were Oct 31-Nov 6.

I had the great pleasure of hopping down on Saturday for the final film, 127 Hours. This marvelously filmed treat is about the hiker who experienced 127 hours trapped in a gorge in Utah and finally extricated himself by cutting off his fatally wedged arm. It is not so much about the excruciating amputataion, a small part of the overall film as about the celebration of life. Danny Boyle, who directed Slumdog Millionaire, is creative and electrifying as he mingles poignant humor with the horrific. James Franco portrays a nearly doomed young hiker with amazing panache.

This wonderful festival of indie films brings together award winning professionals and exciting emerging students. You don't need to buy in Savannah to experience this great stuff. Just take  a scintillating two hour excursion to Charleston's sister city to the south.
