Charleston | Festivals
With the year round mild weather, Charleston is the festival place. Are you highbrow? Or are you a highbrow wannabe? Step on downtown in late May and early June for one of the premier arts festivals in the world, Spoleto Festival USA.
Get your antique yearnings satisfied at the Art and Antique Forum in March each year. Tour the magnificent homes and gardens on the peninsula during the spring at several stellar events. And for the middle brows and lowbrows there's a plenty of "festing" to do. We love to honor our waterfront, so join us for then Maritime Festival with superb tall ships from around the world. And don't miss The Blessing of the Fleet to honor and encourage our brave shrimpers. Wanna fight? Don't forget the civil war reenactment complete with rebels yelling and horses stomping. Got Scottish blood? The annual Highland games is full of burly men in tartan kilts throwing really heavy things.
Want to run? Come on to the Cooper River Bridge Run in April and elbow your way through the 35,000 people all trying to make the big 10K. Or for more fun, how about the Stiletto Stampede? Nope, it's not ladies, it's big footed men in high heels. The Southeastern Wildlife Festival in February draws thousands of duck hunters and birders from around the world to our city's midst. Film, Beach Music and Shag, Moja, and Comedy pop up during the year. And I haven't even scratched the surface. Keep checking in as I participate in these stellar events.
