About Charleston Trees

Charleston Trees, a Committee of the Charleston Horticultural Society, works to enhance the role of trees as vital elements in public spaces throughout the City of Charleston. Charleston Trees works with neighborhood associations within the City's limits to identify areas that would benefit from more trees and coordinates the necessary fundraising. Neighborhood-associations can apply to a special committee fund that donates one tree for every two purchased.

Charleston Trees also works with families and friends who wish to honor loved ones by planting trees in their honor or memory. Charleston's Dock Street Theatre displays a book in its lobby that lists all honorees and donors. The Committee works with businesses to rehabilitate neglected areas and started a "Prune It" program to help maintain healthy trees.

The City of Charleston's Urban Forestry Department plays an integral role in Charleston Trees and through a public-private partnership, ensures lower prices through volume purchases. Charleston Trees is a long-lasting gift to our city and our citizens. Among the new trees that provide natural beauty and compliment the City's architectural splendor, the oaks are along East Bay, pocket parks along the Cross-Town, tree plantings in Elliotborough, Hampton Park Terrace and the French Quarter.
